Are you an innovative and passionate payroll professional with a keen interest in numbers and problem solving? If so, we have an exciting and rewarding opportunity for you! Congebec is seeking a Payroll and RH Specialist to join our team! 

In this role, you will be an integral part of a dynamic organization, collaborating closely with the Human Resources department and multiple departments across Canada. You will be responsible for managing the payroll process for approximately 500 operational and administrative employees, alongside a colleague, while also contributing to accounting-related projects.   

Congebec is a Canadian company headquartered in Quebec, specializing in the Canadian food supply chain since 1974.  

Under the supervision of the Director, People and Culture, you will be responsible for providing payroll processing expertise and administrative support to the human resources team, with a focus on talent management and corporate culture. 

Payroll 

  • Complete employee payroll processing (approximately 250 employees out of the 500); 
  • Process payroll deductions, taxable benefits and other deductions and remittances; 
  • Administer employee benefits, vacations, RRSPs, pension funds, etc.; 
  • Be available to answer questions from employees and managers in both English and French; 
  • Act as a super-user for our payroll system, proactively identifying, communicating and resolving issues with the payroll provider.  
  • Implement work tools to optimize processes;  
  • Research, prepare and process various subsidy files (training, internship, salary, etc.). 

Accounting 

  • Calculate, update and monitor various time banks (holidays, illness, etc.) and ensure their integrity in the payroll system; 
  • Perform all month-end activities required for payroll including weekly journal entries; 
  • Generate and prepare payroll reports. 

General skills

EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE 

  • Have a DEP or DEC in accounting, administration, or related field; or equivalent work/study combination; 
  • Have three (3) to five (5) years of relevant experience in payroll processing in the different Canadian provinces and with various types of profiles (schedules, employees, etc.); 
  • Experience working with collective agreements is considered an asset. 

REQUIRED SKILLS 

  • Excellent attention to detail to ensure accuracy and thoroughness of the work. 
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills; 
  • Good oral and written communication skills, including the ability to write and verbally communicate with diverse audiences professionally. 
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and collaborate with colleagues at all levels. 
  • Ability to prioritize competing demands in order to organize and manage multiple projects/activities effectively and efficiently, while meeting deadlines. 
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite and familiarity with payroll-related systems and technologies (asset: ADP Worforce Now, ADP Time and Attendance). 

HIRING REQUIREMENTS 

  • Bilingualism: Writing and oral communication skills, in both French and English; 
  • Up-to-date knowledge of applicable tax and Canadian payroll laws and regulations;
