Gérard Geoffrion graduated in Industrial Engineering from École polytechnique de Montréal in 1974, and obtained his MBA in 1982. He then worked for a dozen years in strategic planning, acquisitions and corporate sales. Among others, he worked for Nouveler and Unigesco, the latter specializing in distribution, retail and food.
Gérard Geoffrion then spent 20 years with Van Houtte. In 1995, he joined the company as Vice President, Corporate Development. Two years later, he was appointed Executive Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer. Following the privatization of Van Houtte, he became President and CEO in 2008. Under his presidency, Van Houtte was sold to Green Mountain Coffee Roasters (GMCR) for $915 million, following rapid sales growth.
In 2010, Gérard assumes the presidency of GMCR Canada. In October 2012, he became GMCR’s President, International Development.
Gérard retired at the end of 2014, and qualified as an IAS director. Since then, he has served on numerous boards, including Congebec, where he is Chairman of the Audit and Risk Management Committee. He is also Chairman of the Board of CIMA+ and Sacs Frontenac, and sits on the Advisory Boards of Prograin and Intersand. He is also actively involved with the Centre Yvon-Deschamps as director and treasurer.
